Job Description
Director of Platform Engineering leading GCP infrastructure, DevOps, security, and AI automation. Scaling Author Health’s patient care platform and managing a high-performing engineering team.
Responsibilities:
- Define and drive the infrastructure platform vision supporting patient care and company operations
- Develop and execute architectural scaling strategies for high availability and cost efficiency
- Write, review, and ship production-quality code alongside the engineering team
- Contribute software capabilities to the patient care platform
- Develop and execute AI and automation capabilities for Platform Engineering
- Design the platform to improve developer efficiency and satisfaction
- Implement platform capabilities supporting business continuity and disaster recovery policies and procedures
- Center security in platform strategy and operations and support security assessments
- Transfer GCP architecture and platform expertise through pairing, code review, and hands-on knowledge sharing
- Manage and develop a small, high-performing team
- Onboard team members, conduct performance management, ensure required training, and manage absences
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data, and Enterprise Technology teams on system design and technology roadmap
- Perform administrative duties using a company-provided computer
- Attend limited team meetings and company events as required
Requirements:
- Proven ability to design and build technical roadmaps aligned with company mission and scalable architecture goals
- Comfort working across the stack and implementing software components
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, or similar
- Ability to quickly ramp up on languages or frameworks outside primary expertise
- Proven ability to develop AI solutions, including LLM-based APIs, intelligent automation, or model-serving infrastructure
- Experience implementing security capabilities across software infrastructure, including SDLC processes, AI security, and data security and retention
- Proven ability to implement HIPAA-compliant technologies
- Experience working within regulatory standards such as HITRUST and/or SOC2
- Experience managing GCP components including Cloud Run, Cloud Armor, and Cloud SQL/Postgres
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code systems such as Terraform
- Experience managing and scaling production database infrastructure such as Postgres and MySQL
- Experience with code repositories such as GitHub
- Proven ability to develop a high-performing team delivering operational excellence and measurable results
- Ability to sit for extended periods in front of a computer screen
- Ability to lift up to ten pounds
