Job Description
Energy Markets Consultant specializing in power markets at ICF, providing analyses and forecasts to evaluate investment opportunities. Collaborating with clients on strategies for energy transition and market dynamics.
Responsibilities:
- Perform quantitative, economic, and technical analyses of U.S. power markets using commercial market models, proprietary tools, and large datasets.
- Develop long-term forecasts of energy, capacity, ancillary service, and renewable energy market outcomes.
- Evaluate renewable energy, battery storage, conventional generation, transmission, and emerging energy investments.
- Analyze market fundamentals including load growth, fuel prices, transmission congestion, generation retirements, policy changes, and new resource additions.
- Support interconnection and transmission analyses, including assessments of queue activity, network upgrade costs, congestion impacts, and project economics.
- Assist with asset valuations, project financing analyses, acquisition due diligence, and M&A support engagements.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance ICF's proprietary forecasting methodologies, databases, and analytical tools.
- Prepare client presentations, technical reports, and market insights that effectively communicate complex findings to diverse audiences.
- Support business development initiatives through market research, proposal preparation, conference participation, and thought leadership.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Operations Research, Mathematics, Energy Systems, Statistics, or a related quantitative field
- Bachelor's degree AND 2 to 4+ years of experience in energy markets, power systems, energy economics, market analysis, consulting, trading, utility planning, or a related field
- Master’s degree AND 1 to 3+ years of experience in energy markets, power systems, energy economics, market analysis, consulting, trading, utility planning, or a related field
- Analytical and problem-solving skill experience
- Experience using Excel and quantitative analysis tools
- Experience with Python, R, SQL, or similar programming languages
- Experience with power market simulation and forecasting tools such as PROMOD®, PLEXOS®, Aurora®, PSLF®, or similar platforms
