Job Description

Engineering Manager leading billing engineering for Supabase’s developer-focused Postgres platform. Owning team development, monetization systems, roadmap delivery, and incident response.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Billing engineering team at Supabase
  • Build a healthy, high-trust team culture in a remote-first, globally distributed environment
  • Run 1:1s, performance management, career development, and onboarding for direct reports
  • Coach engineers working across backend application code, data pipelines, external integrations, and operational workflows
  • Build durable ownership for critical billing knowledge, access, and incident response
  • Handle people administration, including leave and time off
  • Own the Billing hiring plan and serve as Hiring Manager and first-round interviewer
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to source, interview, and close candidates
  • Contribute to headcount planning, organizational design, and engineering leadership development
  • Own the Billing roadmap and project management in Linear
  • Balance new pricing and product capabilities with correctness, resilience, supportability, and technical-debt investments
  • Manage workflow intake and Slack triage
  • Own weekly updates and align stakeholders
  • Surface risks, dependencies, tradeoffs, and revenue or customer-impact concerns to leadership
  • Train as and serve as Incident Commander
  • Lead incident coordination, resolution, customer-impact assessment, post-incident follow-up, and blameless post-incident reviews
  • Participate in architecture and design discussions and challenge plans with sound technical reasoning

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of engineering background
  • 3+ years managing remote engineering teams
  • Experience managing a billing engineering team at a cloud, SaaS, or developer tools company
  • Experience managing remote, globally distributed teams across disparate time zones
  • Technical credibility with engineers building complex systems
  • Genuine passion for people management
  • Experience building psychological safety and a feedback culture
  • Track record of performance management, including difficult conversations
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to build structure
  • Clear communication and strong writing skills
  • Collaborative, low-ego, and adaptable working style
  • Experience with subscription lifecycle and monetization mechanics
  • Experience with usage-based billing at scale
  • Production experience with Stripe, Orb, or comparable billing providers
  • Experience with payments and billing-provider integrations, APIs, webhooks, invoice lifecycle, payment failures, event ingestion, sync engines, rate limits, provider SLAs, and outage degradation
  • Experience with entitlements and pricing enforcement
  • Experience collaborating with Finance, Data, Product, Support, Sales/RevOps, and Partnerships on billing operations
