Job Description

Engineering Manager building and leading high-performing Ruby on Rails teams at Zipline. Driving AI adoption and fostering team growth in a remote-first environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coach a team of software engineers delivering secure, scalable features for Zipline's enterprise customers.
  • Partner with Product and Design to scope, prioritize, and deliver solutions.
  • Own a technical debt roadmap for your teams, identifying and sequencing debt reduction work.
  • Drive adoption of AI and agentic development workflows within your teams.
  • Build and maintain team processes that support async, remote-first collaboration.
  • Represent your teams to engineering leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Recruit, hire, and retain strong engineers, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Pay attention to team health, individual wellbeing, and career growth.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in an engineering management role, leading teams of senior individual contributors.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails at production scale.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AI-assisted and agentic development workflows.
  • Maintain a technical debt roadmap and balance debt reduction against feature delivery.
  • Coaching and growing engineers, with a track record of promotions and career progression.
  • Clear and compelling communication skills, especially in a remote-first company.
  • Experience in designing and operating distributed systems, APIs, and web applications.
