Job Description
Field Project Engineer deploying distributed-generation systems for AGent Energy. Leading customer sites from survey through go-live, contractor coordination, utility access, and onsite troubleshooting.
Responsibilities:
- Lead each deployment from kickoff to go-live, including site survey, scoping, contractor scheduling, installation, testing, and handoff
- Run several projects concurrently and align customers, contractors, utilities, and AGent teams on dates and next steps
- Direct licensed contractors and review their work against installation standards before sign-off
- Validate every site before go-live: hardware connected, data flowing to the platform, and successful test completed
- Work with utilities on meter and data access and build relationships with key utility contacts
- Keep sites healthy after go-live by responding to hardware and connectivity alerts, coordinating repairs, and tracking issues to closure
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, wiring, and connectivity issues onsite
- Serve as the go-to technical contact for customers and help sales scope sites and set realistic timelines
- Improve kickoff checklists, installation standards, and alert runbooks
- Feed field lessons back to the engineering team
Requirements:
- Track record of managing several field projects simultaneously, coordinating customers, subcontractors, and internal teams to hit dates
- Usually 3–6 years in generator service, project engineering, commissioning, controls, or electrical contracting
- Clear, proactive communication with customers, in person and in writing
- Ability to drive deliverables to completion without being chased
- Live in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or Wisconsin
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to travel about one week a month, closer to two during each market's peak season
- Comfortable performing hands-on technical work onsite, safely and within training
- Working knowledge of commercial or industrial standby generators and automatic transfer switches (ATS) preferred
- Ability to scope a site, read one-line and control wiring diagrams, and identify problems in contractor work preferred
- Experience in demand response, virtual power plants, or energy services preferred
- Experience with utility metering, meter data, or utility program staff preferred
- Building-controls or telemetry experience, including BAS, Modbus, or cellular gateways, preferred
- Relationships with electrical contractors or generator service providers in the region preferred
- A degree is welcome but not required
