Job Description
Industrial Hygienist / Process Safety Engineer red-teaming Mercor’s frontier AI models. Evaluating chemistry and chemical-safety responses for misuse risks.
Responsibilities:
- Write challenging single-turn prompts in chemistry and chemical safety, labelled as benign, dual-use, or adversarial
- Evaluate model responses against a defined policy standard
- Judge whether responses handled technical requests correctly
- Write reference answers explaining correct responses and the underlying technical reasoning
- Distinguish routine professional questions from requests with potential misuse intent
- Provide written rationales that non-specialists can understand
- Work on scenarios involving exposure assessment, process hazards, toxic release and dispersion modelling, ventilation, containment, PPE, and regulatory compliance
Requirements:
- Real-world experience assessing exposures and process hazards and signing off on controls
- Relevant background such as certified industrial hygiene, process hazard analysis, toxic release and dispersion modelling, ventilation/containment/PPE programme design, or regulatory compliance
- Knowledge of exposure assessment, sampling strategy, control banding, HAZOP, LOPA, what-if studies, management of change, consequence analysis, AEGL/ERPG criteria, facility siting, PSM, Seveso, COMAH, OSHA, or national equivalents
- Strong technical writing ability; every judgment requires a written rationale understandable to non-specialists
- Prior technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience is strongly preferred
- Ability to provide a writing sample or link
- Must not use classified or export-controlled information, NDA-covered information, or information subject to prepublication review obligations
- Ability to read and write about misuse scenarios in the field for sustained periods
- Red-teaming experience is ideally preferred
