Job Description
Principal Equipment Engineer developing advanced assembly, robotics, and automation equipment for RTX aerospace manufacturing. Delivering scalable production solutions across multiple sites.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, integrate, and validate advanced manufacturing equipment and automation solutions for Adhesion & Assembly processes
- Own assigned equipment development workstreams, including design collaboration, integration, commissioning, and factory acceptance
- Collaborate with equipment OEMs, system integrators, and automation suppliers
- Manage day-to-day technical engagement with vendors and challenge design assumptions
- Support equipment architecture, controls strategy, robotics integration, and functional safety implementation
- Translate complex manufacturing problems into practical equipment designs
- Conduct technical evaluations, design reviews, and troubleshooting for automated assembly, adhesive dispensing, bonding, and smart torque systems
- Support standardized equipment and process platforms deployable across multiple sites
- Partner with manufacturing sites, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, EHS, and other functions to define technical requirements
- Participate in commissioning, startup, debug, and handoff of new equipment
- Generate engineering documentation, specifications, test plans, and validation reports
- Provide subject matter expertise for enterprise automation and assembly initiatives
- Identify design risks, integration issues, and performance gaps; propose and execute solutions
- May mentor junior engineers and support team capability-building
Requirements:
- University degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
- Experience developing, integrating, or deploying industrial manufacturing equipment
- Strong experience with industrial automation and robotics
- Working knowledge of industrial controls, PLC-based systems, and equipment integration
- Knowledge of functional safety and machine safety principles
- Experience working directly with equipment OEMs, system integrators, or automation suppliers
- Ability to travel internationally and domestically up to 30%
- U.S. citizenship required
- Preferred: experience with automated assembly, adhesive application, bonding, or torque-related manufacturing equipment
- Preferred: experience with commissioning, debug, acceptance testing, and production ramp support
- Preferred: experience supporting multi-site equipment deployment
- Preferred: familiarity with machine vision, precision assembly systems, or material dispensing technologies
