Job Description

Forensic Underwriting Team Lead leading mortgage forensic underwriting operations. Supporting investor conditions, rebuttals, compliance, and loan purchase reviews across the United States.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of Forensic Underwriters and oversee day-to-day team operations
  • Support resolution of post-closing conditions on Bond, Agency, and Non-Agency loans during purchase review
  • Provide guidance, answer loan-level inquiries, and manage escalations
  • Address escalated investor rebuttals and guide formal written responses
  • Direct complex deficiency correction
  • Manage team tasks, assignments, and workload balancing
  • Provide employee development and performance coaching
  • Assist with onboarding and training
  • Monitor performance metrics and report documentation accuracy, timeliness, and compliance to management
  • Suggest process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and compliance
  • Review production and processes to identify trends for the Forensic Underwriting Manager
  • Monitor department reports, due dates, aged loans, and investor turn times
  • Clarify acceptable defect cures with investors
  • Monitor the loan pipeline and provide status updates to the Forensic Underwriting Manager
  • Ensure the team meets monthly goals
  • Review rebuttal denials and work with the Forensic Underwriting Manager on resolution options

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in a Team Lead or senior role
  • Experience in addressing investor conditions and exceptions
  • Experience working in Encompass, preferred
  • Knowledge of regulatory rules and regulations
  • Understanding of Agency, Non-Agency, Bond, and Non-QM guidelines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to determine solutions and identify alternative resolutions within acceptable guidelines
  • Skilled at prioritizing completing multiple tasks within a given period
  • Skilled at independently making decisions
  • Excellent customer service skills with internal employees and external vendors
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
