Job Description
Senior Contract Surety Underwriting Specialist managing complex accounts and agency relationships for The Hanover’s insurance business. Driving profitable growth through underwriting, risk analysis, and new business development across the South Region.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, solicit, and underwrite new Contract Surety accounts that drive profitable growth
- Manage relationships with key partners in the agency plant
- Manage the assigned book of business, generally with moderate to high technical complexity and scope
- Operate with limited supervision in underwriting and marketing capacities
- Work within general expertise and authority levels
- Contribute to region and business unit goals
- Manage agency, broker, and account meetings and general workflow
- Apply Hanover’s Surety strategies and appetite, using internal and external data to make individual and portfolio risk decisions
- Coordinate with internal and external resources on moderately complex risks
- Develop new business opportunities with key agencies
- Serve as a trusted advisor to agents, brokers, and clients across the territory
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
- AFSB Designation Preferred
- Generally, 5-10 years Contract Surety underwriting experience
- 5+ years’ experience driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new business as well as complex accounts
- Command of fundamental underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures
- Very strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate difficult or technical decisions or comments with confidence and precision
- Ability to adapt quickly to change, identify, analyze, and solve problems
- Willingness to be open to new and different ways of thinking
- Must be located in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, or Georgia
- Ability for regular business travel throughout the assigned territory
