Job Description

Senior Fine Arts Underwriting Consultant managing complex accounts and profitable growth for Intact’s specialty insurance business. Advising management, producers, and underwriters across the New York Metro area.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and execution of strategic initiatives supporting growth and profitability for the line of business
  • Advise Senior Management and serve as a leader or participant on projects
  • Manage development, growth, and profitability for the assigned book of business and territory
  • Focus on new business production, renewals, and large account management
  • Underwrite and manage highly complex accounts within the highest underwriting authority levels
  • Coach and mentor new or junior department members and provide technical training
  • Maximize profitable new business through relationships, product knowledge, and underwriting expertise
  • Develop and maintain an active target account list
  • Manage financial performance, including loss ratio, premium plans, retention, rate/exposure increases, and commission targets
  • Manage underwriting quality and book management
  • Execute underwriting strategy, portfolio management, self-audits, and documented underwriting approvals
  • Ensure compliance with standards and assigned underwriting authorities
  • Travel regularly to key producers and accounts and maintain marketplace visibility
  • Analyze agency trends and implement proactive business strategies
  • Communicate underwriting appetite and generate qualified business
  • Monitor agency action plans and participate in agency planning and marketing meetings
  • Assist with underwriting audits
  • Respond to Field Underwriter requests with risk or program recommendations and approvals
  • Consult with other company businesses and Home Office staff and participate in task forces and committees
  • Develop and lead training initiatives
  • Integrate line-of-business priorities with company and business-unit strategies
  • Influence underwriting appetite, production, and pricing through planning processes
  • Identify and communicate product refinement and development opportunities
  • Assist with underwriting guidelines, product and system modifications, and coverage forms
  • Lead or participate in operations, processing, and IT projects
  • Participate in industry events as a subject matter expert and company representative
  • Mentor and coach less experienced underwriters

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art History or equivalent experience required
  • 8+ years’ experience in Fine Art Insurance underwriting sales role or similar required
  • Demonstrated relationships within Fine Art Insurance industry and beyond
  • Professional insurance designation preferred (AICPCU, RPLU)
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong focus on building and fostering deep, long-lasting client relationships
  • Overnight travel required
