Job Description
Commercial lines underwriting manager leading risk selection, team performance, and portfolio profitability. Driving growth, stakeholder relationships, training, and underwriting strategy for a U.S. insurance MGA.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of Underwriters in delivering profitable Commercial Lines risk selection
- Communicate underwriting vision and objectives
- Direct team operations and mentor lower-level managers and team members
- Communicate risk assessment best practices and align underwriting strategy with portfolio growth goals
- Measure, analyze, and communicate agency performance
- Manage profitability and risks through the underwriting team to achieve business plan profit goals
- Recommend and implement business growth initiatives
- Manage resources and implement changes to streamline strategy execution
- Build relationships with key stakeholders and deliver personalized, quality service
- Facilitate Commercial Lines projects, product reviews and launches, agency and Underwriter training, and escalated issue resolution
- Share underwriting technical expertise with team members, agents, and regulators
- Coach and mentor direct reports, provide feedback, and develop employees
- Forecast resource needs and costs, manage budgeted resources, and account for expenses
- Promote accountability, diversity and inclusion, flexibility, continuous improvement, collaboration, creativity, and fun
- Maintain complete and accurate agency management system data
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ten (10) or more years related work experience
- Extensive property and casualty insurance underwriting experience
- CPCU license
- Certificate of General Insurance (INS)
- Associate in Insurance Production (AIP)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced working knowledge of commercial lines products and concepts, underwriting processes and procedures, laws and regulations related to area of responsibility, and terminology, concepts and principles related to strategic planning
- Self-motivated, excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task while managing priorities
- Ability to adapt and be flexible in a complex changing environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products
