Job Description
Investor underwriting analyst resolving suspense defects and escalated loan issues. Supporting Guild Mortgage’s home-financing operations through compliance analysis, investor fulfillment, and team guidance.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Suspense Specialists and Investors to resolve defects and get loans purchased in a timely manner
- Handle a pipeline of escalated problem loans and conduct independent research to rebut Investor decisions
- Analyze suspense trends and prepare recommendations to improve manufacturing quality
- Collaborate with a large team and help train suspense specialists on loan guidelines and manufacturing
- Review and evaluate loan documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company, federal, agency, state, and local standards
- Analyze loan-to-value ratio, debt-to-income ratio, credit reports, applications, income and assets, down-payment funds, and supporting documentation to identify potential fraud or misrepresentation
- Review appraisals to ensure loans meet secondary-market, investor, and company standards
- Work with Loan Processors and Loan Officers to collect information and documentation needed to finalize incomplete loan packages
- Stay current on regulations and industry trends affecting compliance and decision-making
- Answer questions and resolve escalated issues from junior-level teammates
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree directly related to the position or equivalent, preferred
- Minimum five years' experience in underwriting conventional, FHA, VA, or Bond Program loans, and/or experience underwriting jumbo, or permanent/one-time close loans
- Expert-level knowledge of overall mortgage lending processes, including underwriting, funding, and loan processing
- Expert-level knowledge of valid documentation related to processing consumer mortgage applications, including tax returns, financial statements and records, verification of income and deposits
- Expert-level knowledge of underwriting and regulatory requirements
- Detailed knowledge of federal, state, and regulatory requirements/guidelines related to consumer mortgage lending and internal processes and controls
- Ability to think critically and evaluate facts and data to draw conclusions and determine downstream impacts and associated risks
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment
- Intermediate math skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong detail orientation and highly organized
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, Wiki, collaborative cloud-based programs, and third-party software applications required
- Ability to adhere to process protocol and apply established protocols in a timely manner
- Work primarily performed Monday–Friday during the business week
