Job Description
Underwriting Specialist managing complex specialty insurance accounts for Intact Insurance Specialty Solutions. Driving profitable growth, territory performance, producer relationships, and underwriting strategy remotely nationwide.
Responsibilities:
- Underwrite and manage a book of highly complex specialty accounts within broad authority levels
- Develop and execute strategic initiatives supporting growth and profitability
- Maximize profitable new and renewal business opportunities
- Develop and maintain an active target account list
- Manage financial performance of the assigned territory, including loss ratios, premium plans and commission targets
- Manage underwriting quality and book performance
- Execute underwriting strategy, portfolio management and self-audits
- Ensure compliance with underwriting standards and assigned authorities
- Make decisions to accept, decline or modify risks within authority
- Implement underwriting decisions in compliance with state laws
- Develop relationships with producers to achieve growth and profitability goals
- Identify coverage and service gaps to retain or obtain customers
- Partner with claims, actuarial and risk control departments
- Travel to key producers and accounts and remain visible in the marketplace
- Analyze agency needs and trends and implement proactive strategies
- Communicate the company’s underwriting appetite
- Monitor agency action plans and participate in account management, agency planning and marketing meetings
- Participate in industry events and committees
- Analyze competitor information and producer-specific reports to support territorial rate reviews
- Recommend marketing, pricing, product and systems initiatives
- Train and mentor less experienced underwriters
- Maintain and apply knowledge of competitive, regulatory and legal environments
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively more complex, specialty lines underwriting experience
- Professional insurance designation preferred (AICPCU, RPLU)
- Wood frame Builders Risk expertise preferred
- Hold a Property & Casualty (P&C) License or be willing to secure one following onboarding
- Strong understanding of exposures and key coverage issues
- Knowledge of competitive, regulatory and legal environments
- Ability to travel regularly to key producers/accounts
- Ability to work remotely nationwide in the United States
