Job Description
Founding Legal Counsel building Pinpoint’s legal function for HR recruitment software. Owning commercial contracts, data protection, product legal, compliance, and due diligence readiness.
Responsibilities:
- Own commercial contracting end to end, including MSAs, DPAs, customer redlines, risk tolerance, playbooks, fallback positions, templates, legal intake, and sales legal SLAs
- Turn around a high volume of contract reviews at pace
- Partner with Product and Engineering on regulated products including background screening, right-to-work checks, DBS and credit checks, and AI-assisted hiring features
- Own regulatory compliance across UK and EU GDPR, FCRA, the EU AI Act, and US state law
- Draft and negotiate partnership, reseller, referral, integration, marketplace, NDA, supplier, and vendor agreements
- Own contract lifecycle management from template through signature and renewal
- Own company-wide data protection, including DPAs, subprocessor management, DPIAs, DSARs, records of processing, and international transfers
- Maintain compliance with UK and EU GDPR, US state privacy law, Quebec Law 25, China’s PIPL, and other local regimes
- Establish ongoing audit readiness through accurate policies
- Lead due diligence readiness, corporate housekeeping, share and option documentation, and remediation of historic contractual exposure
- Build and own Pinpoint’s legal function as the first and sole dedicated legal hire
- Report to the Chief Operating Officer
Requirements:
- Qualified lawyer in England and Wales, or an equivalent common law jurisdiction
- Real commercial contracting experience, including in-house experience at a SaaS business
- In-house counsel experience in a scaling startup of 50–250 people
- Experience building legal infrastructure with limited resources at a fast pace
- Experience training at a law firm and subsequently moving in-house
- SaaS contracting experience
- Broad experience across commercial contracting, data protection, and product legal
- Ability to assess risks, propose defensible routes, and escalate genuine trade-offs
- Technically adept and able to quickly learn and use new tools, particularly AI tools such as Claude
- Clear and concise communication
- Ability to work independently and be highly self-motivated
