Job Description
Health Physicist red-teaming Mercor’s frontier AI models on radiological safety and misuse detection. Writing technical prompts, evaluating responses, and producing reference rationales.
Responsibilities:
- Write challenging single-turn prompts in the health physics domain across benign, dual-use, and adversarial levels
- Evaluate model responses against a defined policy standard
- Judge whether responses handled technical requests correctly
- Write reference answers explaining correct responses and the technical reasoning behind them
- Distinguish routine professional questions from requests indicating potential misuse
- Apply practical experience in survey, assay, contamination control, and work planning to red-team frontier AI models
- Provide written rationales that non-specialists can follow
- Read and write about misuse scenarios in health physics for sustained periods
Requirements:
- Background as an operational health physicist at a DOE site, national laboratory, or reactor facility, including survey, assay, and contamination control
- Experience as an internal dosimetry or bioassay specialist, including intake assessment, dose reconstruction, and committed dose
- Experience as a decommissioning and D&D health physicist, including characterisation surveys, MARSSIM, and release criteria
- Experience in accelerator or reactor health physics, including activation products, neutron fields, and shielding design and verification
- Experience with dose planning for high-hazard work, including RWP development, ALARA reviews, hot-cell, and glovebox operations
- Ability to write challenging single-turn prompts labelled benign, dual-use, and adversarial
- Ability to evaluate model responses against a defined policy standard
- Ability to write reference answers with technical reasoning understandable to non-specialists
- Prior technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience is a strong signal
- Must not use classified, export-controlled, NDA-covered, or prepublication-review information
- Must disclose such obligations so the work can be scoped accordingly
