Job Description
HIM Operations Specialist indexing and managing clinical documentation for Advocate Health, a nonprofit integrated U.S. health system. Supporting EHR record completion, chart correction, and clinician documentation workflows.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately upload and index outside records using applicable software, routing documentation to clinicians as appropriate
- Create or select the appropriate patient, encounter, and/or order and assign the correct document type and description in the EHR
- Incorporate internal and external clinical documentation from electronic and paper sources into the EHR through work queues, rounding, eDelivery, or importing
- Meet established benchmarks for quality, accuracy, and productivity
- Analyze medical records for missing documentation and signatures
- Assign or edit medical record deficiencies by the responsible provider in the chart management system
- Provide support and education to clinicians regarding record completion activities
- Collaborate with Data Integrity and other functional areas on chart correction
- Notify appropriate leadership for quality review and privacy investigation
- Ensure scanned documents are clear, legible, correctly positioned, and readable
- Serve as a point of contact for record completion support for clinicians and other providers
Requirements:
- High School Graduate or Equivalent
- Typically requires 0-1 years of experience in healthcare
- Proficient computer and keyboarding skills
- Ability to learn Epic, OnBase, Solarity, Microsoft Office, legacy archives, Teams, and electronic communication and meeting platforms
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to prioritize workload and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with time constraints
- Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision while maintaining quality and productivity standards
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and switch tasks while maintaining quality and accuracy
- Ability to receive constructive feedback and take personal ownership for success
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to safeguard protected health information and basic knowledge of HIPAA
- Ability to perform repetitive functions and hand movements
- No licensure, registration, or certification required
