Job Description
Financial literacy podcast intern producing Marketplace’s This Is Uncomfortable and Million Bazillion. Recording, editing, researching, and adapting economic journalism across podcast, web, social, and broadcast.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate on Marketplace’s financial literacy podcasts, including This Is Uncomfortable and Million Bazillion
- Develop financial literacy programming focused on explainers and human-centered news-you-can-use
- Produce podcast episodes from start to finish with minimal supervision
- Adapt and extend journalistic content across video, social media, and digital platforms
- Capture and maintain the unique voice and tone of specific brands or shows
- Brainstorm, book, prep, edit tape, prepare scripts, implement feedback, and fact-check for This Is Uncomfortable
- Collaborate with producers to shape scripted Million Bazillion episodes
- Record interviews, cut tape, and perform sound design
- Research, fact-check, prepare hosts, and verify script accuracy
- Collaborate with digital teams and producers on web and social extensions
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a college or university, or graduated within the past 18 months
- Available full-time (40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.) throughout the internship
- Some professional newsroom experience (e.g. college: newspaper, radio station, magazine, etc.)
- Demonstrated interest/experience in financial literacy, the role money plays in our lives, or the economy
- Some experience in some sort of audio platform
- Interest/experience working on a weekly podcast (preferred)
- Interest and maybe some experience in video (short form) (preferred)
- Interest in comedy, pop culture, kids edu-tainment (preferred)
- Must be able to perform the essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation
- Required to move about in an office environment and sit for extended periods
- Required to move about in the community
- Frequent use of hands for data entry/keystrokes and simple grasping
