Job Description
Freelance linguist post-editing Simplified Chinese-to-Brazilian Portuguese IT legal contracts for TransPerfect. Proofreading terminology, legal consistency, and Brazilian Portuguese compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Perform machine translation post-editing (MTPE) or proofreading for IT legal contracts and service agreements
- Ensure terminology accuracy, legal consistency, logical fluency, and compliance with Brazilian Portuguese writing conventions
- Follow style guides, term bases, and project requirements
- Deliver assigned tasks on schedule and communicate proactively about ambiguities or delays
- Meet throughput benchmarks of 600 words per working day for MTPE and 1,200 words per working day for proofreading
- Participate in the mandatory project-specific qualification test before formal project engagement
Requirements:
- Simplified Chinese (ZHCN) → Brazilian Portuguese (PTBR) language pair
- Native-level Brazilian Portuguese preferred; non-native linguists with solid PTBR competence considered
- Degree in Translation, Linguistics, or Language Studies, or equivalent with significant translation training; OR 2+ years of translation experience plus a college degree; OR 5+ years of translation experience with no degree required; OR a translation certification issued by an appropriate government body
- Hands-on experience translating or editing legal / IT-contract content is a strong plus
- Familiarity with CAT tools such as MemoQ, Memsource/Phrase, or Smartcat
- Stable availability and ability to meet daily output benchmarks
- Willingness to complete a mandatory unpaid qualification assessment
- Ability to work core business hours
- Must sign a confidentiality agreement and complete a translation test
