Job Description

IT Specialist supporting Lynker, a scientific and technical services company, with SWPC service desk operations. Administering Windows systems, security, devices, and 24/7 space-weather infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced technical support for users at the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC)
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems involving workstations, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals
  • Respond to and resolve advanced Service Desk tickets within defined SLAs and customer satisfaction thresholds
  • Manage user accounts in Active Directory and Google Workspace, including permissions, groups, and MFA
  • Perform client-system and server patching, upgrades, imaging, and Windows configuration management
  • Provision desktop, laptop, and mobile devices, including endpoint security and configuration management agent installation
  • Maintain National Critical Systems and Business Enterprise System desktops, laptops, and telephony platforms for 24/7 operational availability
  • Manage equipment inventory, labeling, tracking, receiving, sanitization, decommissioning, and reporting
  • Provide user training and guidance on system access, operating system usage, cybersecurity, and best practices
  • Install and support networked conference-room A/V systems, computers, cameras, projection devices, and telephony
  • Assist senior system administrators with network authentication, server troubleshooting, security audits, and compliance
  • Research technical specifications, provide cost quotes, and validate equipment orders for procurement
  • Support physical movement, deployment, and decommissioning of hardware assets
  • Assist the Property Manager with inventory tracking and asset audits
  • Follow documented technical procedures and complete assignments independently or under general guidance
  • Support operational continuity for the 24/7 space-weather forecasting mission
  • Administer email and endpoint encryption platforms
  • Support broad IT infrastructure initiatives

Requirements:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science, space physics, geophysics, engineering, computer science, or mathematics from an accredited institution
  • At least 3 years of experience in related areas
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible experience providing IT helpdesk support and systems administration in a Windows environment
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows operating systems, including Windows 10/11 and prior versions
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of endpoint configuration management and security tools
  • Experience with endpoint encryption, MFA, and IT security compliance practices
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware, software, desktop deployment practices, and network connectivity
  • Familiarity with Service Desk trouble-ticketing systems and escalation workflows
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to support users ranging from entry-level employees to scientists and senior executives
  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder status required
  • U.S. Citizen must have lived in the U.S. for 3–5 years prior to application
  • Desired: experience supporting IT services in a 24/7 operational environment or within a federal agency
  • Desired: familiarity with NOAA/NWS IT and computing standards, COOP plans, cybersecurity standards, and configuration management requirements
  • Desired: working knowledge of scripting or automation tools for Windows-based IT systems and mobile devices
  • Desired: experience supporting conference room A/V equipment and VOIP telephony
  • Desired: relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate
