Job Description
Manager of Operations at the Invasive Species Council of BC overseeing operational projects. Ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements while managing contractors and supporting project delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and supervise contractors for field projects, ensuring quality, timelines, and compliance
- Oversee project planning and execution, including scheduling, resource allocation, and reporting
- Apply Best Management Practices (BMP) and ensure adherence to relevant standards
- Serve as project manager for field and operational projects, ensuring timely execution, delivery, and reporting
- Co-chair the Joint Occupational Health and Safety committee for the organization and could serve as the Council Safety Officer
- Maintain and enforce health, safety, and emergency response protocols for all operational activities
- Ensure staff and contractors hold appropriate certifications and training
- Participate in risk management and policy development to strengthen operational systems
- Provide professional oversight on operational activities in compliance with regulatory and ecological standards
- Apply strong working knowledge of invasive species, especially plants and integrated management strategies
- Strong effective communication and experience working with First Nations
- Support operational decisions with sound ecological and technical judgment
- Oversee development and delivery support of training programs for contractors and staff on safety, invasive species management and best practices
- Mentor team members and foster a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence
- Work closely with finance, communications, and engagement teams to align operational goals with organizational priorities
- Contribute to annual work planning and operational strategy development. Provide support for Board reporting and planning.
Requirements:
- Degree or diploma in environmental science, natural resource management, project management or related experience
- Professional designation such as with BCIA, CAB or FPBC and asset
- Pesticide Applicators Certification or willingness to complete PAC training
- Minimum 5 years of experience in operations, project management, or restoration, including contractor supervision
- Strong knowledge of invasive plant management and restoration practices
- Proven ability to manage budgets, timelines, and multi-stakeholder projects
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote or project sites as required; experience with hauling trailers is ideal.
