Job Description

Outside Property Associate Claim Representative investigating first-party property losses for Travelers, a property casualty insurer. Assessing damages, applying coverage, and supporting customers across Northern Virginia and Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in structured virtual, classroom, and on-the-job training covering insurance policies, claim processes, systems, and procedures
  • Review, investigate, and document first-party property claims under close supervision
  • Gather information from policyholders, claimants, witnesses, and third-party providers
  • Investigate and evaluate relevant facts and documents, including leases, contracts, and by-laws
  • Determine and apply coverage for building damages according to policy terms
  • Establish accurate scopes of building and contents losses for written or computer-assisted estimates
  • Communicate professionally and promptly with customers, claimants, and internal stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate claim activity records in claim management systems
  • Adapt to AI, digital transformation, technology implementations, system upgrades, and digital tool rollouts
  • Access and inspect residential and commercial structures, including roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other tight areas
  • Participate in catastrophe deployments to assist customers in other states
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED and one year of customer service experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Previous internship or work experience in customer service or insurance
  • Willingness to obtain an active adjuster license where required by state law
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Willingness to learn claims management and estimating software
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and make effective decisions within established authority
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Basic conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated openness to continuous learning
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate at own expense to the assigned Northern Virginia and/or Washington, DC territory
  • Ability to carry, set up, and climb a ladder weighing approximately 38 to 49 pounds, walk on roofs, and enter tight spaces
  • Insurance license(s) and/or UAS Remote Pilot Certification may be required; required insurance license(s) generally must be obtained within three months of starting
  • Ability to participate in the Catastrophe Response Program and deploy to assist customers in other states
