Job Description

Principal UX Designer leading the rebuild of Grove Collaborative’s online store for sustainable household and personal-care products. Defining core shopping flows, design systems, and AI-enabled prototyping.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design of Grove Collaborative’s core-site rebuild
  • Define the vision and strategy for the core-site experience in partnership with the Sr. Director of Product
  • Set design principles and translate the Human Health positioning into a customer experience
  • Establish design direction and make independent direction calls while escalating cross-system trade-offs to the manager
  • Define homepage, category, search, product detail, cart, and checkout experiences end to end
  • Design reusable design-system patterns for implementation by other teams
  • Use AI prototyping weekly and partner with Engineering and UX Designers on shared components and patterns
  • Participate in the recurring Walk The Store series with the CEO and leadership team
  • Bring design perspective to live customer-experience reviews and turn findings into prioritized rebuild work
  • Mentor designers, define practical standards for quality, and raise the team’s craft bar
  • Report to the Head of Product Management & UX

Requirements:

  • Experience taking a real commerce experience apart and rebuilding it while keeping the business running
  • Ability to lead multi-quarter initiatives and execute two-week sprints
  • Experience designing at scale for consumers who are shopping, comparing, and deciding
  • Strong understanding of merchandising, search, and subscription mechanics
  • Understanding of the systems underlying design choices and their build costs
  • Weekly use of AI prototyping tools and knowledge of their capabilities and limitations
  • Ability to present work to executives, advise on trade-offs and sequencing, receive hard feedback, and influence decisions
  • Ability to mentor and develop other designers
  • Strong interaction design, information architecture, visual design, and systems thinking skills
  • Fast proficiency in Figma
  • Subscription or replenishment commerce experience preferred as an additional advantage
  • Background in health, wellness, CPG, or sustainability preferred as an additional advantage
  • Experience establishing or rebuilding an engineering-adopted design system preferred as an additional advantage
  • Public company or turnaround experience preferred as an additional advantage
  • Research fluency, including ability to conduct independent studies, preferred as an additional advantage
