Job Description
Senior Automation Engineer building Workato/n8n workflows and SaaS integrations. Delivering automation solutions for a Brisbane-based digital transformation consultancy.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and deliver automation solutions across diverse client environments
- Review and optimise existing automations
- Manage integrations and assigned workstreams from requirements and design through build, testing, deployment, documentation, and handover
- Reverse-engineer workflows and automations to identify inefficiencies and technical issues
- Provide practical implementation options and recommendations
- Develop scalable automation solutions across multiple platforms, systems, and workflows
- Implement exception handling, monitoring, documentation, and operational support processes
- Troubleshoot integration and workflow issues
- Support medium-to-enterprise client engagements, including integration-focused and lift-and-shift workstreams
- Gather and analyse requirements and translate business processes into automation solutions
- Document workflows, system processes, requirements, and implementation decisions
- Produce workflow diagrams, SOPs, and handover documentation
- Maintain workflow visibility through Jira or similar platforms
- Develop reusable automation components, standardised recipes, integration patterns, and internal playbooks
- Identify recurring requirements and improve scalability and delivery efficiency
- Contribute to continuous improvement of automation practices and delivery processes
- Collaborate with technical leads, solution teams, and stakeholders
- Communicate workflows, technical considerations, progress, and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences
- Provide written delivery updates and asynchronous communication
- Operate autonomously while contributing to the wider delivery team
Requirements:
- Mid-to-senior level experience in Automation Engineering and/or System Integration
- Strong hands-on experience with Workato or deep expertise with n8n
- Ability to design and implement automation workflows across multiple systems
- Strong experience integrating SaaS applications through APIs, middleware, and data flows
- Experience reverse-engineering existing workflows and identifying optimisation opportunities
- Experience with REST APIs, integrations, and workflow automation
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure and/or AWS
- Familiarity with Jira, Atlassian Suite, or equivalent Kanban/Scrum tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to map, document, and explain workflows and system processes
- Business analyst mindset with requirements gathering, outcome clarification, and workflow validation
- Ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Client-facing professionalism
- Strong ownership, accountability, and independent working ability
- Proactive problem-solving ability
- Ability to deliver complete solutions with minimal supervision
