Job Description

Senior construction lawyer helping LegalVision, a fixed-fee commercial law firm, build its New Zealand construction practice. Advising business clients on contracts, claims, procurement and construction regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review and negotiate construction contracts, including NZS 3910, NZS 3916, NZ 3604-based contracts, Residential Building Contracts, Consultancy Agreements and Subcontractor Agreements
  • Advise clients on contract procurement strategies
  • Assist with contractual claims and interpretation
  • Advise on regulatory compliance matters, including security of payment claims, Construction Contracts Act 2002, Building Act 2004, Licensed Building Practitioner requirements, and related commercial building industry licensing and regulations
  • Build and own client relationships as the primary legal contact and trusted adviser
  • Identify opportunities to add value and help clients’ businesses succeed
  • Contribute to team and business growth through articles, external webinars and internal LV Academy training sessions
  • Work across construction, infrastructure and commercial matters for SME, medium-sized and enterprise clients

Requirements:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a reputable legal environment, in-house, private practice or both
  • Demonstrated experience working on front-end construction/infrastructure matters
  • Additional experience in general commercial contracts highly valued
  • Commercial awareness and a solutions-oriented mindset
  • Ability to explain complex legal issues clearly, practically and commercially to non-legal stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills and ability to run matters autonomously while balancing multiple client priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for building trusted client and colleague relationships
  • Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a high-performing team
