Job Description
Sr Principal Software Engineer shaping architecture and engineering practices for Mastercard’s global digital payments network. Leading distributed-systems initiatives, technical standards, prototypes, and enterprise-wide engineering mentorship.
Responsibilities:
- Drive Mastercard’s technology, architecture and design, and engineering practices
- Work on complex enterprise-wide initiatives spanning multiple services and programs
- Work with business and product owners to architect and deliver new services and products
- Lead initiatives to improve the craftsmanship of software engineering teams
- Drive architectural design, including dependent services, service interactions, and policies
- Lead prototypes and proofs of concept for new technologies, application frameworks, and design patterns
- Balance trade-offs between competing interests using judgment and experience
- Participate in organization-wide and public speaking engagements
- Publish white papers and blogs on relevant and emerging technical topics
- Consult across teams and program lines to identify synergies and reuse opportunities
- Conduct technical interviews for engineering staff
- Mentor and guide software engineers and leads to improve productivity, quality, and technology policy compliance
- Engage with external technical communities
- Run Principal review architecture meetings and drive resolutions to enterprise-wide challenges and regulatory needs
- Mentor and coach Principal Engineers across the enterprise
- Assist people managers with hiring strong engineering talent and performance evaluations
- Abide by Mastercard security policies and practices
- Ensure confidentiality and integrity of accessed information
- Report suspected information security violations or breaches
- Complete periodic mandatory security training
Requirements:
- Current, deep, hands-on software engineering experience in architecture, design, and implementation on large-scale, distributed systems
- Strong computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, software design, performance analysis, networking, and mathematics for computer science
- Recognized technical leadership based on communication and technical skills
- Passion for new technology and ability to dive deep to form objective evaluations and opinions
- Ability to lead by influence
- Ability to work on complex enterprise-wide initiatives spanning multiple services and programs
- Ability to architect and deliver new services and products
- Ability to drive architectural design, including dependent services, service interactions, and policies
- Ability to prototype and prove concepts for new technologies, application frameworks, and design patterns
- Ability to conduct technical interviews for engineering staff
- Ability to mentor and guide software engineers, leads, and Principal Engineers
- Ability to engage with external technical communities
- Ability to run architecture review meetings and resolve enterprise-wide challenges and regulatory needs
- Ability to assist with hiring and performance evaluations
- Ability to comply with Mastercard security policies and practices
- Ability to protect information confidentiality and integrity, report suspected security violations, and complete mandatory security training
