Job Description
Renewable energy underwriter managing complex property and casualty portfolios for Intact Insurance Specialty Solutions. Driving profitable growth across wind, solar, battery storage, and emerging clean energy accounts.
Responsibilities:
- Underwrite and manage a portfolio of highly complex specialty accounts across property and casualty lines
- Assist with strategic initiatives supporting growth and profitability of the assigned book of business
- Focus on new business production, large account management, and relationship development
- Maximize profitable new and renewal business opportunities
- Develop and maintain an active target account list
- Manage financial performance, loss ratios, premium plans, retention, rate/exposure increases, and commission targets
- Analyze submissions, policy wordings, insured values, engineering and risk control reports, loss history, contractual agreements, and financials
- Execute underwriting strategy, portfolio management, self-audits, and documented underwriting approvals
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, standards, authorities, laws, statutes, and requirements
- Make decisions to accept, decline, or modify risks within broad underwriting authority
- Collaborate with risk control experts on detailed technical risk analysis
- Build relationships with producers and identify coverage or risk management gaps
- Partner with claims, actuarial, and risk control departments
- Travel regularly to key producers and accounts and remain visible in the marketplace
- Monitor agency action plans and participate in account management, agency planning, marketing meetings, industry events, and committees
- Gather and analyze competitor and producer-specific information
- Recommend marketing, pricing, products, and systems improvements
- Train and mentor less experienced underwriters
- Monitor insurance and renewable energy market developments, innovations, trends, and emerging risks
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
- 5–10 years of progressively advancing Renewable Energy or related specialty underwriting experience
- Ability to evaluate technical and complex risks across wind, solar, battery storage, and emerging clean energy technologies
- Ability to analyze underwriting exposures and develop tailored insurance solutions balancing profitability, risk appetite, and client needs
- Strong relationships with brokers, clients, and industry stakeholders
- Track record of generating new business opportunities and maintaining a high-quality portfolio
- Client-focused, solutions-oriented account management approach
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
- Ability to deliver responsive service and articulate coverage and risk management recommendations
- Team-oriented approach and collaboration with peers, claims, and risk engineering functions
- Accountability for individual performance and results
- Professional insurance designation preferred
