Job Description
Warehouse Automation Engineer evaluating, piloting, and deploying warehouse technologies for Ryder’s logistics operations. Supporting RFPs, ROI analysis, implementation, testing, and vendor troubleshooting.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, evaluate, pilot, and deploy new warehouse automation technologies
- Lead minor RFP projects and support major RFP projects through automation selection and validation
- Build ROI analyses and business justifications for solution selection
- Support presentations with the Lead Automation Solutions Engineer
- Identify gaps in vendor FSD/SOW documentation using the FSD Checklist process
- Validate automation solution designs for implementation and operational performance
- Review designs for clearance, power requirements, cost effectiveness, and SLA targets
- Support vendor technology reviews and requests for quotes
- Manage smaller implementation projects, including punch lists and project plans
- Track implementation milestones, requirements, and project budgets
- Attend implementation status calls and coordinate vendor and onsite staff communications
- Support onsite Solution Acceptance Testing and post-go-live hypercare
- Profile dashboard and systems data and analyze reports from technology control systems and WMS/WES
- Develop pilot activities and hypotheses, define proofs of concept, coordinate teams and approvals, evaluate vendors, and determine pilot timelines
- Deploy acceptable pilots and communicate value justification to senior management and cross-functional teams
- Partner with vendors to resolve Priority 1–5 automation tickets and join resolution calls
- Review team strategy with the manager and set personal goals
- Validate spending with the manager and support project budget tracking
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field of study
- 2 years or more of demonstrated experience in warehouse automation
- Experience in warehouse automation, preferably including sortation conveyor, goods-to-person, autonomous vehicles/robots, or ASRS’s
- Beginner experience in automation, management consulting, or physical and process robotics
- Beginner knowledge of warehouse management operations, data analytics, industrial engineering, warehouse types, and Lean methods
- Intermediate knowledge of material handling equipment and automation types, including forklift applications, racking designs, packaging devices, and automation design
- Beginner knowledge of CAD, slotting, MOST, simulation, WMS, and labor management; network design tools and data visualization software are a plus
- Industrial or Mechanical Engineering background or equivalent warehouse operational knowledge
- Strong planning, time management, collaboration, decision-making, organization, and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to create and maintain professional relationships across organizational levels
- Demonstrated success assessing, developing, and deploying new offerings or incremental enhancements
- Willingness to travel 30–40%
