Job Description

Area Director cultivating $25,000+ donors and raising $1.5M annually for World Vision. Advancing its Christian humanitarian work addressing poverty and injustice.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop long-term, effective relationships with individuals and family foundations giving $25,000 or more annually
  • Provide donors with a deeper understanding of holistic needs in the world and challenge them to respond through World Vision’s ministry
  • Help carry out World Vision’s Christian mission, vision, and strategies
  • Witness to Christ and minister through life, deed, word, and sign
  • Raise a minimum of $1,500,000 each fiscal year through private special funding, multi-year commitments, and gift planning
  • Recommend gifts of appreciated assets when possible
  • Plan and implement account management strategies for assigned accounts
  • Develop relationships with prospects and connect donor interests with World Vision’s mission and ministry
  • Network through current donors to identify new major-gift prospects
  • Arrange interactions between major donors and World Vision’s president, senior leadership, field staff, and domestic/international projects
  • Take qualified donors and prospects on trips to World Vision project sites
  • Work with gift-planning staff on donor-advised funds, stock gifts, wills, and related arrangements
  • Represent World Vision U.S. in speaking engagements and media interviews
  • Attend job-related training programs
  • Collaborate with team members when assigned
  • Maintain awareness of corporate goals, objectives, announcements, and activities
  • Follow organizational policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent eight years of work experience
  • Five years of work experience in fundraising or sales
  • Demonstrated ability to manage major accounts
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A. for any employer
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time within the U.S.
  • Frequent domestic and some international travel
  • Frequent weekend and evening work to accommodate donor schedules
  • May require trips to hazardous locations
  • Networking skills: builds and sustains an active network of contacts and builds rapport, trust, and positive relationships
  • Prospecting skills: asks questions, listens to donors, identifies giving opportunities, qualifies donors, and proactively contacts others
  • Thorough fundraising knowledge, including fundraising campaigns, appeals, programs, fundraising sources, and competition for funds
  • Christian conduct and active participation in spiritual disciplines, including chapel, prayer, worship, devotions, and leadership of devotions
  • Incorporates World Vision core values into decisions
