Job Description
Senior philanthropy director building Vitamin Angels’ institutional fundraising function. Securing foundation funding for global nutrition and maternal-child health programs.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Vitamin Angels’ fundraising from public foundations, global philanthropic alliances, and other institutional funders
- Build and manage a portfolio of high-value prospects and funders
- Establish and achieve annual revenue goals with the Chief Development Officer
- Lead the full fundraising cycle, from prospect identification through solicitation, award management, stewardship, and renewal
- Cultivate, solicit, negotiate with, and steward high-priority funders
- Develop tailored engagement and solicitation strategies
- Maintain prospect, pipeline, activity, relationship, and revenue information in Salesforce
- Lead development and submission of proposals, concept notes, presentations, reports, and other funding communications
- Partner with Programs and Finance on project scopes, budgets, deliverables, and reporting commitments
- Oversee funder stewardship, reporting, and renewal strategies
- Provide revenue forecasts, pipeline analysis, and assessments of funding opportunities and risks to the CDO
- Serve as the internal expert on foundation and institutional philanthropy
- Translate programmatic strategy, scientific evidence, and impact into philanthropic investment opportunities
- Monitor global health and philanthropy trends and identify engagement opportunities
- Partner with Development and other teams on cross-functional funding opportunities
- Build alignment across Programs, Finance, Marketing, the Executive Office, and Development
- Represent Vitamin Angels in funder meetings, conferences, philanthropic networks, and global health forums
- Contribute to Development strategy, revenue planning, and departmental performance
- Build the Strategic Philanthropy function
- Hire and manage one direct report initially and expand the team as needed
- Establish team roles, goals, processes, performance measures, and accountability standards
- Recruit, onboard, coach, and manage staff
- Develop systems, tools, resources, and partnerships supporting sustainable institutional philanthropic revenue growth
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience
- At least 12 years of progressively responsible fundraising or related experience
- At least five years leading and managing high-performing teams
- Significant experience in foundation and institutional fundraising
- Proven record of cultivating, soliciting, negotiating, and securing significant grants and philanthropic commitments
- Success meeting ambitious revenue goals and securing new and renewed multiyear support
- Strong knowledge of the foundation and global philanthropic funding landscape
- Experience developing complex proposals, concept notes, presentations, budgets, and funder reports
- Experience managing restricted grants and ensuring compliance with funder requirements
- Ability to translate technical, scientific, and programmatic information into compelling philanthropic investment cases
- Knowledge of global health and development funding trends
- Experience building or significantly expanding a fundraising function, team, or portfolio
- Strong financial acumen and ability to develop accurate project budgets and funding requests
- Ability to recruit, coach, develop, and hold staff accountable
- Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills
- Critical thinking, sound judgment, and ability to manage complex projects and competing priorities
- Entrepreneurial, goal-oriented, self-directed, and comfortable building a new function while managing a high-value fundraising portfolio
- High standards for quality, accuracy, responsiveness, donor service, and accountability
- Proficiency with Salesforce or a comparable CRM, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Commitment to Vitamin Angels’ global mission and guiding behaviors
- Ability to work effectively under pressure with professionalism, humility, adaptability, and good humor
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
- Relevant Master’s Degree preferred
- Experience in nutrition or maternal, newborn, and child health preferred
- Knowledge of a non-English language preferred
