Job Description
GAF, a leading roofing manufacturer, seeks an Asphalt Process Excellence Manager to improve multi-plant manufacturing performance. Leading process standards, safety, efficiency, cost reduction, and continuous improvement across asphalt operations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the team in driving multi-plant process excellence across oxidizing and non-oxidizing asphalt facilities
- Provide technical process support across manufacturing and supply chain to improve safety, efficiency, productivity, and costs
- Define, document, implement, verify, and deploy Standards and Best Known Practices across plants
- Build and maintain the AODocs library for Engineering Standards and Standard Engineering Procedures
- Drive Communities of Practice participation, troubleshooting, knowledge sharing, and communication between plants
- Identify and execute cost savings and efficiency improvement opportunities using plant benchmarking and network resources
- Reduce process variation, downtime, scrap, and costs
- Serve as the point of contact for internal and external process and equipment experts
- Establish standard instrumentation, equipment, operational, and maintenance standards for plant systems
- Collaborate with Corporate teams and plants to adopt new technology solutions
- Participate in HAZOP initiatives, identify safety improvements during plant visits, and lead resulting process changes
- Provide expertise and assign team leads to address plant quality issues and large claims
- Implement structured problem-solving and process-improvement approaches
- Set team priorities using plant metrics and data analytics
- Lead plants through change management and process changes to foster continuous improvement
- Coach and mentor technical and process teams
- Travel approximately 50%
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Required bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
- 10+ years of demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment
- 5+ years supporting process engineering at multiple locations
- Supervisory experience or project management lead experience
- Experience in continuous web machine operation or design
- Knowledge of the roofing process and ASTM Roofing Codes
- Advanced written, verbal, listening, analytical, organizational, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to plan, execute, and control multiple tasks simultaneously
- Hands-on experience
- Ability to influence and drive cross-functional and cross-plant decisions and initiatives
- Preferred experience in asphalt operations, refinery, or chemical process manufacturing
- Advanced ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings
- Advanced root cause analysis troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
- Ability to translate technical data into suitable formats/language for personnel
- Knowledge of manufacturing analysis tools, including statistical analysis/SPC, process capability studies, lean manufacturing, Kepner Tregoe, and/or DOE
- Experience with standard manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or G-Suite
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without employer-sponsored visa
