Job Description

Associate Director shaping enterprise learning strategy, design governance, and RTX University at aerospace and defense company RTX. Leading instructional and digital design teams and modern learning technology adoption.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and develop instructional and digital designers creating instructor-led, digital, blended, simulation-based, and performance-support solutions
  • Set enterprise learning solution strategy and architecture aligned with business, talent, leadership, and capability priorities
  • Lead RTX University learning experience and content strategy, including architecture, pathways, curation, discovery, and platform evolution
  • Establish and apply build, buy, curate, reuse, and retire strategies for learning solutions
  • Serve as performance consultant and strategic advisor to diagnose business, performance, and capability needs
  • Establish learning design governance covering standards, templates, accessibility, brand alignment, quality assurance, and content lifecycle
  • Advance responsible use of AI and emerging learning technologies
  • Evolve instructional design capabilities and ways of working
  • Build partnerships across business, HR, Talent, Learning, technology, communications, and other functions
  • Advise senior stakeholders on learning strategies, recommendations, tradeoffs, and investments
  • Partner with Learning Operations and technology teams to integrate solutions across the LMS, RTX University, and learning technology ecosystem
  • Evaluate effectiveness using learner insights, adoption data, performance measures, and business outcomes
  • Prioritize work and allocate team and vendor resources across enterprise initiatives
  • Manage external vendors, production partners, and associated budgets
  • Serve as enterprise thought leader for learning experience design, learning architecture, and modern learning practices

Requirements:

  • University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years experience
  • Experience in learning strategy, instructional design, learning experience design, digital learning, talent development, or related disciplines
  • Experience leading and developing instructional design, learning experience design, or digital learning teams
  • Experience developing learning strategies, architectures, standards, and scalable solutions within a complex organization
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design, adult learning, learning science, performance consulting, and modern learning technologies
  • Ability to diagnose business and performance needs and translate them into effective learning strategies and solutions
  • Experience establishing learning design governance, including standards, accessibility, quality assurance, and content lifecycle practices
  • Ability to influence across organizational boundaries and drive alignment without direct authority
  • Strong executive communication, consultation, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills
  • Experience using data, learner insights, and performance measures to evaluate effectiveness and inform decisions
  • Ability to lead multiple complex priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
  • U.S. citizenship required; only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
  • Experience leading enterprise learning strategy or solution architecture within a large, complex, global organization (preferred)
  • Experience developing or evolving an enterprise learning hub, LXP, or digital learning ecosystem (preferred)
  • Experience establishing build, buy, curate, reuse, and retire approaches for learning portfolios (preferred)
  • Experience connecting learning solutions to broader talent strategies (preferred)
  • Experience implementing AI-enabled learning practices and emerging technologies (preferred)
  • Experience driving self-directed, skills-based, or personalized learning experiences (preferred)
  • Experience influencing senior business and HR leaders (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Workday Learning or comparable enterprise learning platforms (preferred)
  • Deep management and leadership knowledge for leading cross-department project teams or managing across related departments (preferred)
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards including WCAG and learning measurement and evaluation practices (preferred)
