Job Description
Business Analyst/Developer enhancing LabWare LIMS and HL7/API integrations for Utah public health laboratories. Gathering requirements, testing workflows, training users, and improving system performance.
Responsibilities:
- Support and enhance LabWare LIMS v8, integrations, workflow optimization, reporting, and laboratory informatics initiatives
- Work with scientists, the LIMS Supervisor, laboratory leadership, section chief scientists, and laboratory personnel
- Coordinate necessary system changes to deliver results to laboratory sections
- Support new LabWare LIMS v8 and API integration
- Provide HL7 integration architecture, development, enhancement, testing, and support
- Maintain working knowledge of LabWare LIMS v8
- Support communication with UPHL leadership on LIMS priorities, data security, and informatics needs
- Program and troubleshoot system functionality and recommend timely solutions
- Identify system performance measures and actions needed to improve or correct performance
- Evaluate relative costs and benefits to select appropriate actions
- Collect and document data requirements
- Communicate requirements effectively
- Write user stories and test scripts
- Perform user acceptance testing
- Evaluate and implement process improvements
- Develop workflow documentation
- Train end users
- Support system performance improvements
Requirements:
- Experience programming, implementing, and maintaining complex software systems
- Ability to determine user needs and convert them into business and technical requirements
- Ability to evaluate and test software functionality to meet business needs
- Ability to handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
- Experience teaching end users to use complex software systems
- Knowledge of flow diagram software and ability to create workflows
- Ability to organize and write clear objective-focused documentation
- Experience working with large databases and data retrieval
- Understanding of general laboratory processes, terminology, quality, and regulatory requirements
- Experience with laboratory methodology and processes in the assigned lab section preferred
- Experience supporting laboratory information management systems in Infectious Disease, Toxicology, and/or Environmental Chemistry laboratories preferred
- Experience performing queries in LabWare LIMS, modifying minor LabWare LIMS coding issues, and customizing reports with Crystal Reports preferred
- Understanding of system requirements gathering and documentation
- Ability to evaluate and implement process improvements
- Organizational aptitude
- Knowledge of HL7, XML, CCDA, LOINC, SNOMED CT, and ICD-10
- Experience with complex, modern information technology software
- Epidemiological, information technology, or informatics experience
- Business analysis experience
- SQL and relational database experience
- Requirements gathering and documentation experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- LabWare LIMS experience preferred
- Laboratory informatics background preferred
- HL7, XML, CCDA, LOINC, SNOMED CT, and ICD-10 knowledge preferred
- Public health laboratory experience preferred
- Crystal Reports experience preferred
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize workload across multiple complex projects
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Lucid
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Impeccable time management and efficiency skills
