Job Description
Counsel advising Hometap’s home equity investment business on commercial contracts and strategic legal matters. Guiding fintech operations across privacy, AI, vendor risk, and regulatory issues.
Responsibilities:
- Advise on diverse legal and regulatory matters, including data privacy, artificial intelligence deployment, and dispute resolution
- Engage with departmental leadership to align legal strategy with commercial objectives
- Serve as a central connector between functional teams and the legal practice
- Partner with legal operations leads to streamline workflows and optimize automated systems
- Refine guidance materials and build scalable processes
- Deliver actionable, solution-oriented advice on daily operational inquiries
- Resolve unexpected challenges with a focus on risk mitigation and growth
- Draft, review, and negotiate technology agreements, vendor arrangements, professional service contracts, and strategic partnership agreements
- Collaborate with finance, technology, and operations teams to structure vendor engagements
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards
Requirements:
- J.D. degree from accredited law school
- Active bar membership in good standing
- 4+ years of relevant legal experience spanning firm, in-house, or hybrid environments
- 1+ years in-house experience preferred
- Experience in consumer financial services, fintech, mortgage lending, or highly regulated consumer-facing industry strongly preferred
- Proven experience structuring, drafting, and negotiating commercial agreements and technology contracts, including NDAs, SOWs, DPAs, SaaS, vendor contracts, and MSAs
- Strong desire to work across AI, privacy, litigation, and legal operations
- Business-first approach to law and ability to evaluate risk thoughtfully
- Sound judgment and confidence in decision-making
- Comfort communicating directly with senior leadership
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to translate complex concepts into plain, accessible language
- Comfort with ambiguity, strong organizational capabilities, self-motivation, and collaborative orientation
