Job Description

Membership growth director driving acquisition, retention, and engagement for National Kidney Foundation professionals. Leading lifecycle strategy, analytics, technology, partnerships, and a two-person team.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and deliver NKF’s professional membership growth strategy and annual plan
  • Set targets for new-member acquisition, first-year and overall retention, member engagement, and dues revenue
  • Define and articulate the Professional Membership value proposition by segment
  • Recommend membership models, tiering, and dues strategies
  • Identify and cultivate growth channels, institutional and group memberships, and partnerships
  • Monitor market trends, peer-society offerings, and nephrology workforce shifts
  • Design and execute integrated lifecycle programs covering recruitment, onboarding, engagement, renewal, reinstatement, and win-back outreach
  • Build a trainee-to-professional-member pipeline, including graduation-conversion strategies and early-career programming
  • Lead member-exclusive content, resources, networking, webinars, and membership promotion at NKF Spring Clinical Meetings
  • Establish member listening systems and improve member experience, satisfaction, and loyalty
  • Own membership data integrity, reporting, and KPI dashboards
  • Apply analytics, engagement scoring, and AI-enabled tools to identify growth opportunities and at-risk members
  • Serve as business owner of membership technology, including AMS/CRM, Member Hub, and marketing automation
  • Partner with Marketing on the annual membership marketing plan, budget, campaign testing, measurement, and optimization
  • Collaborate across education, advocacy, Kidney Learning Solutions, Spring Clinical Meetings, field offices, and development
  • Manage the membership budget and forecast dues revenue
  • Lead, coach, and develop a two-person membership team
  • Represent NKF Professional Membership externally with peer societies and the nephrology field

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in membership growth, engagement, and retention
  • At least 2 years managing staff
  • Experience within a national professional association, medical or health professional society, or healthcare-related organization strongly preferred
  • Documented success growing membership and improving retention and engagement, with specific outcomes achieved
  • Fluency in the full membership lifecycle and lifecycle marketing
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills
  • Hands-on experience with membership data, dashboards, and segmentation
  • Proficiency in association management systems (AMS/CRM) and marketing automation platforms
  • Ability to serve as business owner of membership technology
  • Exceptional leadership, team management, interpersonal, written, verbal communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to influence across functions and with senior clinical volunteer leaders
  • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Passion for the mission of the National Kidney Foundation and supporting healthcare professionals
  • Flexible for moderate overnight business travel, which may include weekends
  • Unimpeachable integrity and trustworthiness; tact, discretion, professionalism, and effectiveness under pressure
  • Competence using standard office equipment, including telephone, personal computer, fax machine, and photocopier
