Job Description
Remote Patent Docketing Specialist managing domestic, foreign, and PCT patent prosecution deadlines. Supporting attorneys and legal teams at Ballard Spahr, a national U.S. law firm.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Intellectual Property Practice by managing patent prosecution docketing functions
- Ensure compliance with firm and departmental policies and procedures
- Provide administrative and technical support to attorneys and other professionals engaged in patent prosecution
- Work with attorneys, paralegals, and legal administrative assistants to address patent-related issues
- Maintain docketing databases for domestic and foreign patent prosecution matters
- Enter, monitor, and clear deadlines and scan and attach relevant patent images
- Review communications regarding domestic and foreign patent filing, prosecution, renewal, and Patent Trial and Appeal Board matters to determine actions and due dates
- Review websites to determine the status of foreign and domestic patents
- Perform quality reviews of docketed events, deadlines, and matter information
- Prepare regular and requested docket reports for clients and legal teams
- Assist with special projects and perform other assigned duties
Requirements:
- 5-7 years of substantive patent docketing experience in a law firm or corporate legal department
- Significant responsibility for patent prosecution docketing
- Extensive experience with U.S., foreign, and PCT patent docketing
- Strong understanding of USPTO rules, international patent procedures, statutory deadlines, and national/regional phase requirements
- Ability to analyze patent correspondence, calculate and verify deadlines, identify potential docketing issues, and escalate concerns appropriately
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience supporting U.S. and foreign patent filings
- High school diploma or equivalent required
