Job Description
Remote SH&E manager overseeing branch, project, and event safety compliance for Sunbelt Rentals’ US equipment-rental operations. Leading audits, training, incident investigations, and strategic safety planning.
Responsibilities:
- May have oversight and support of Project Safety Coordinators
- Provide project and event safety oversight and validate implementation of company SH&E standards across the US
- Prepare reports and recommend procedures to improve organizational performance
- Oversee the integrity and quality of Sunbelt Rentals safety protocols at branches within the assigned geographical area
- Conduct branch and project safety compliance inspections and audits covering employee training, facility regulatory compliance, vehicle fleet/DOT compliance, and shop and equipment rental fleet compliance
- Work with Branch Managers to assign the correct Safety Coordinator to each location
- Train and guide Safety Coordinators to ensure consistent policy and procedure implementation
- Identify inspection deficiencies, provide written evaluations and corrective actions in Enablon, and follow corrective actions through closure
- Deliver ongoing safety training modules to employees
- Assist Safety Coordinators with required training, safety meeting coordination, and maintenance of the Safety Training & Documentation Manual
- Track and trend regional performance to identify adherence to the Leading Indicator Program and areas needing attention based on lagging data
- Develop an annual strategic SH&E Business Plan with the Safety Director and Line of Business VP/leadership
- Lead monthly Safety Coordinator calls for all regional Coordinators
- Train and monitor staff on Sunbelt Rentals Safety Tools
- Support Branch Managers and Safety Coordinators with incident and near-miss investigations, reporting requirements, and claims-manager follow-up
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 7 years working with Safety, Health and Environmental Management Systems and implementation of safety programs
- Preferred Safety Certification - CSP, ASP and CIH
- Ability and willingness to travel 75%; overnight travel required, with potential weekend travel
- Must live near or have easy access to a major airport hub
- Coverage area will be the entire US
- Event and/or large construction project experience is a plus
- Exceptional written and verbal skills when addressing either individuals or groups
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Ability to present information in classroom or conference call setting
- Ability to develop and execute a strategic plan with measurable goals based on leading and lagging indicator performance
- Ability to track and trend performance of multiple locations based on incident data
- Dependable, motivated, and self-starter
- Ability to multi-task and be highly organized
- Customer-service oriented
- General overview of OSHA construction and general industry regulation knowledge
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation safety
- Ability to foster credibility with branch Supervisors, Safety Coordinators, and BMs
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Must be able to bend, squat, crouch and/or reach and lift up to 25 pounds or more, as required by the job
- Ability to drive for long periods, load and unload heavy equipment, work in extreme weather conditions, and/or work nights and weekends as required
- Duties must be performed according to Sunbelt’s safety policies and guidelines
