Job Description

Special education manager overseeing IEP, 504, compliance, and student services for Willamette Connections Academy, Oregon’s tuition-free online K–12 public school.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of educational service delivery for students with special education needs
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and special education law and procedures
  • Monitor special education processes and timelines across all schools
  • Interpret and communicate regulations, policies, and procedures to principals, teachers, and parents
  • Develop standardized special education processes, forms, and protocols
  • Maintain relationships and databases involving school districts, intermediate units, private providers, community agencies, and mental health clinics
  • Establish procedures for placement, evaluation, assignment, and re-evaluation of students
  • Oversee referrals, 504 or IEP development, diagnostic assessments, and annual/tri-annual reviews
  • Maintain special education documentation in the Learning Management System
  • Conduct school-based special education meetings
  • Coordinate IEP-mandated direct services through in-house support or contracted providers
  • Oversee 504 and IEP accommodations during state testing
  • Coordinate and support the Student Support Team process
  • Collaborate on programming from pre-referral intervention through transition and dismissal
  • Work with parents to answer questions and maximize student learning in the Least Restrictive Environment
  • Adapt curricular options to meet individual student needs
  • Introduce support methods for special-needs students in a virtual environment
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate staff in-service activities
  • Coordinate and support summer school offerings for special education students
  • Maintain current knowledge of special education theory, research, methodology, and legislation
  • Assist with staff certification compliance
  • Oversee the EL Program and coordinate WIDA testing and English Learner accommodations
  • Perform other duties assigned by the School Leader

Requirements:

  • Three years of successful professional practice or administrative experience in special education, or a combination of practice and experience
  • Masters in SPED or Administrator license preferred
  • Must meet all continuing education requirements
  • Expertise in special education law and compliance
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Customer-focused approach
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Technologically proficient, especially with Microsoft Office and Google Suite products
  • Experience in IDEA policy and/or Special Education administration
  • Travel and attendance at in-person events, including State Testing, required throughout the school year
  • Out-of-state, in-person conferences and overnight travel required
  • Ability to work occasional evening hours as needed to support families
