Job Description

Senior Accountant managing financial reporting, reconciliations, investments, and controls for Municipal Credit Union. Supporting regulatory compliance, audits, budgeting, and strategic financial analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate financial records
  • Prepare financial statements and regulatory reporting
  • Perform investment accounting for the credit union’s investments
  • Assist with financial budgeting and planning
  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations
  • Participate in the month-end close process, monthly reporting, variance analysis, and quarterly Call Reports
  • Reconcile bank, general ledger, and suspense accounts
  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
  • Perform general ledger entries and reconciliations for the investment portfolio
  • Support the monthly Allowance for Credit Losses process
  • Participate in budget and forecast planning and analyze income and expense trends
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on accounting implications of new products, services, and initiatives
  • Research transaction-level data with business partners
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP financial statements
  • Assist with financial audits, internal audits, and regulatory examinations
  • Prepare budget-versus-actual performance reports and analysis
  • Support MCU Foundation month-end close, management reporting, and audits
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining internal controls
  • Document and update accounting policies and procedures
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analysis
  • Complete deliverables within prescribed timelines
  • Perform related duties and special projects as assigned
  • Report to the Manager of Accounting

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • MBA or CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting
  • A minimum of 3 years in an accounting position at a similarly sized or larger bank or credit union is preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting requirements for banks
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data and draw actionable insights
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to understand accounting concepts and work independently on accounting-related assignments
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with general ledger systems such as Prologue is a plus
  • Experience with banking systems such as Symitar core banking platform is a plus
  • Commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting
  • Ability to perform in a high-volume environment and meet deadlines
  • Technologically proficient
