Job Description
Senior Distribution PSM Manager leading Smithfield’s Process Safety Management program for food manufacturing and distribution operations. Ensuring ammonia-refrigeration compliance, audits, incident prevention, and employee safety training.
Responsibilities:
- Create, support, and implement strategies to strengthen and improve Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance across applicable locations.
- Determine the applicability of current and pending rules related to PSM and ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Partner with plant personnel to manage all aspects of PSM and ensure compliance.
- Coordinate and interface with third-party PSM auditors; support audits and accurate reporting.
- Develop, evaluate, and recommend process and equipment improvements for safety and operational efficiency.
- Establish and enforce PSM auditing schedules, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) reviews, and Mechanical Integrity testing.
- Lead root cause analysis and implement preventive/corrective actions after upset conditions or ammonia releases.
- Ensure contractors working on ammonia systems are certified and properly trained.
- Develop and maintain PSM-related KPIs to track progress and accountability.
- Lead PSM and ammonia-refrigeration safety activities and train applicable personnel.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Manufacturing, Engineering or related field and 8+ years of PSM management responsibilities in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience, required.
- 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership, required.
- Previous Anhydrous Ammonia Refrigeration experience.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations with emphasis on PSM.
- Extensive knowledge of Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) methodologies, e.g. HAZOP, What If.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and collaborate with cross-functional teams to reach joint decisions, identify and resolve problems.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations, unexpected issues and varied job demands.
- Ability to complete required applicable forms in English; ability to read and write in English.
- Willingness to travel up to 75%.
- Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

- Ability to work in corporate and distribution-center environments, including exposure to wet/humid conditions, extreme temperatures, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, and potentially loud noise.
