Job Description
Senior Engineer providing technical expertise and optimizing paper-making assets across Georgia-Pacific’s North American manufacturing facilities. Diagnosing issues, leading improvements, and supporting new technology trials.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise to paper-making assets across Georgia-Pacific’s North American facilities
- Diagnose root causes of operational issues
- Lead and assist local resources in resolving issues
- Identify improvement opportunities through site assessments
- Develop expertise in others and maintain knowledge of emerging technologies
- Work with production-site personnel to identify process and equipment improvements
- Review maintenance and downtime data to identify equipment requiring repair, replacement, or reconfiguration
- Coordinate and lead efforts to restore asset performance to optimized base case
- Support installation, commissioning, and optimization of new assets
- Help asset owners manage and prioritize improvement opportunities
- Develop standardized operating and maintenance strategies with subject matter experts and operations personnel
- Provide technical support and mentoring to engineering and operations personnel
- Assist with planning outage activities
- Support short-term technical requests across multiple facilities
- Support trials of new process technology and equipment and assess applicability to existing assets
- Travel domestically on a regular basis
Requirements:
- 10-year combined experience in manufacturing/engineering role(s) supporting paper making operations
- Knowledge and expertise in one or more of: headbox operations, yankee steam systems, hood systems, formation, sheet handling, pressure rolls, and machine clothing
- Able to read and interpret P&IDs, layout drawings, and mechanical drawings
- Demonstrated ability to lead, communicate with, and mentor others in a manufacturing environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships at all organizational levels
- Willing and able to travel 50%-70% of the time
- Willing and able to work occasional weekends, nights, and holidays when needed
- Willing and able to wear required PPE at production facilities
- Willing and able to work in environments with platforms, catwalks, elevated temperatures, and variable humidity
- Tissue papermaking experience is a plus
- Bachelor’s Degree in Pulp and Paper Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field is preferred
- Demonstrated team/group facilitation experience is preferred
- Career progression within Paper Operations, preferably tissue and towel, is preferred
- Proven capability of leading through influence and working with large cross-functional teams is preferred
