Job Description
Field service technician commissioning and repairing ABB electrical power distribution equipment. Supporting switchgear, relays, ATS, PLCs, and customer-site service across the Mid-Atlantic.
Responsibilities:
- Perform installation, troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance on electrical distribution equipment
- Execute startup, commissioning, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair activities on electrical power distribution equipment
- Perform field service activities on low- and medium-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, automatic transfer switches (ATS), PLCs, and power management systems
- Diagnose equipment and system failures and implement corrective actions
- Support retrofits, upgrades, modernization projects, and emergency service calls
- Develop electrical drawings, schematics, and bills of material as required
- Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain strong customer relationships
- Prepare service reports, commissioning reports, and customer documentation
- Perform work remotely for engineering preparation and at customer sites for installation
- Report to the Field Service Manager
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED, plus 5+ years of field service or engineering experience in electrical power distribution systems
- Additional formal education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis
- Strong working knowledge of low- and medium-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers
- Experience commissioning, maintaining, or troubleshooting power distribution equipment
- Mechanical and Electrical Testing of Low- and Medium-Voltage Equipment
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection/control drawings
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 80%
- Candidates must already have work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in the United States
- Preferred: experience with Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), protective relays (SEL, GE Multilin, or equivalent), generator control systems, PLC and HMI platforms
- Preferred: experience commissioning, maintaining, or troubleshooting power distribution equipment in industrial, utility, commercial, or data center environments
