Job Description
Senior Software Engineer building secure, scalable distributed systems for Mercury Insurance. Leading sprint delivery, code reviews, and mentoring engineering teams.
Responsibilities:
- Write high-quality code for complex scenarios with good test coverage
- Review and translate product requirements into robust designs for distributed application systems
- Lead design and code reviews of multiple applications
- Ensure adherence to best practices, Mercury standards, and high-quality delivery
- Lead the sprint team to deliver new or improved features
- Address impediments to delivering high-quality sprint solutions
- Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of intended functionality
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers
- Foster a culture of innovation and excellence within Mercury engineering
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related fields Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5+ years software programming experience
- 2+ years experience in technologies used at Mercury
- More than one year experience leading and mentoring engineering teams
- Proficiency in one or more industry-standard programming languages, such as Java, Python, Go, C++, or JavaScript
- Experience with data structures, algorithms, and design patterns
- Experience with relational databases, NoSQL, and caching solutions
- Experience with REST and gRPC APIs
- Proficiency in message queuing, data streaming, workflow, and integration frameworks
- Knowledge of microservices architecture
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Proficiency in DevSecOps
- Experience designing and implementing distributed application systems
- Experience leveraging analytics data and experimentation
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance skills
- Experience driving technical strategy and vision for a team
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science preferred
- Experience with RPA preferred
- Experience with AI, including prompt tuning and model evaluations, preferred
- Experience working within the insurance domain preferred
- Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure preferred
