Job Description

Staff Enterprise Architect designing GitLab’s internal business systems, integrations, data, and AI architecture. Enabling scalable, secure DevSecOps operations across core enterprise platforms.

Responsibilities:

Design and evolve GitLab's internal systems so they integrate, perform, and scale for a rapidly growing business
Apply business, application, data, and technology architecture lenses, with AI considered across each
Map business processes and capabilities to systems, owners, and systems of record
Architect end-to-end processes spanning product introduction, CPQ, quote-to-cash, billing, revenue recognition, renewals, record-to-report, and customer service
Redesign workflows and determine appropriate use of AI agents, deterministic automation, and human involvement
Produce high-level designs and patterns for Salesforce, NetSuite, Zuora, Zendesk, Workato, and other core platforms
Design maintainable, supportable integrations with observability, error handling, runbooks, and realistic total cost of ownership
Review application changes, data model changes, and third-party package additions
Run quarterly platform health checks and publish reports on capacity, limits, trends, and ownership
Architect operational and analytical data flows, including AI retrieval and grounding, APIs, events, pipelines, warehouse models, and reverse ETL
Design privacy, residency, SOX, security, data access, and AI data-handling controls
Establish integration and data contracts between systems
Define platform, integration, identity, access management, secrets-handling, and AI-agent interface patterns
Collaborate with Infrastructure, Security, enterprise AI, Data, Applications, Integration, and RPA teams on reliability, security, governance, and scale
Produce target-state architectures, decision records, reference patterns, and build-ready high-level designs
Co-author designs with engineering teams and support them through implementation
Resolve complex technical problems, build proofs of concept, and root-cause production issues
Maintain technical-debt inventories and drive remediation through projects, upgrades, and migrations
Review architecture as a member of the Architecture Review Board

Requirements:

Deep expertise in application architecture and data architecture
Working fluency in business process and technology architecture
AI expertise as a working lens across business, application, data, and technology architecture
Strong hands-on background in integration, automation, and applied AI
Experience with retrieval-augmented generation, tool calling, and agent orchestration on a platform such as Claude
Experience with AI evaluation and guardrails
Fluency using AI in daily work, including AI-assisted development
Experience architecting ERP, CRM, CPQ, billing, financial, and customer service platforms
Experience with quote-to-cash and record-to-report processes
Expert-level knowledge of data modeling, integration architecture patterns, and API design
Practical experience with data warehouses and ELT, ETL, and reverse ETL pipelines
Depth in iPaaS tooling and production integration operations
Working knowledge of cloud platforms
Track record of driving architectural change through influence
Ability to explain trade-offs in plain business language to Director and VP stakeholders
