Job Description

Staff Product Designer shaping search and discovery for Boatsetter and GetMyBoat boating marketplaces. Designing comparison surfaces and AI-ready listing experiences across web and mobile.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the end-to-end guest discovery experience across search, filtering and refinement, results, map and list, listing pages, and entry paths from organic search and AI assistants
  • Ensure coherence across both brands and across web and mobile
  • Define and defend the information hierarchy of search results cards across guest intents and real-world data states
  • Make inferred interfaces legible, make corrections easy, and reduce guest verification effort
  • Shape the structured expression of experiences, offers, and operators so it works when rendered by third-party assistants
  • Conduct continuous discovery with a Product Manager and engineering tech lead
  • Choose appropriate design artifacts and fidelity based on the decision being made
  • Define success signals before release and measure outcomes after release
  • Ship narrow, finished slices quickly, with states and accessibility handled
  • Collaborate across engineering, support, and pricing while working within the design system and WCAG 2.1 AA standards
  • Report to the Director of Design and serve as the dedicated designer in the pod

Requirements:

  • Substantial ownership of search, browse, or discovery in a two-sided marketplace
  • Experience with relevance surfaces, faceted filtering, availability and pricing display, map plus list, and comparison
  • Ability to design information hierarchies and defend decisions with evidence
  • Experience designing over systems that infer, rank, or predict, including communicating state and confidence in real time
  • Ability to design correction paths for incorrect system inferences
  • A point of view on search in an AI-driven world, including where conversation does not belong
  • Fluency with entities, states, and contracts alongside a tech lead is helpful
  • Restraint and typographic craft in high-information surfaces is helpful
  • Experience using AI tools in personal practice is helpful
  • Search relevance literacy, structured data and schema work, third-party assistant surfaces, or travel, hospitality, and local-services search at scale are pluses, not requirements
  • Portfolio with two or three detailed cases, including problem validation, experiments, abandoned approaches, hierarchy rationale, designed states, shipped work, measured impact, and at least one unsuccessful project
  • Relevant degrees in design, HCI, or information architecture are welcome but not required
  • Portfolio and shipped, measured work outweigh credentials
  • Ability to work remotely with high overlap in United States Eastern hours

Benefits:

  • Remote work
  • Work with a five-person design team
  • Relevant degrees in design, HCI, or information architecture are welcome but not required
  • Portfolio and shipped, measured work valued over credentials
