Job Description
Staff User Researcher shaping food, nutrition, and health experiences at Instacart. Leading mixed-methods research to influence consumer product strategy and innovation.
Responsibilities:
- Own and drive the research roadmap for the consumer innovation workstream
- Partner with product, design, data science, and engineering leadership to identify strategic research opportunities
- Lead generative research on food, nutrition, health, mental models, motivations, barriers, and behavioral triggers
- Apply behavioral science frameworks to research questions and product/design problem-solving
- Execute and oversee qualitative and quantitative mixed-methods research
- Translate research findings into actionable narratives supporting decisions from opportunity framing through product launch validation
- Maintain consumer knowledge bases, personas, and journey maps
- Mentor junior researchers and contribute to research craft, culture, and standards
- Advocate for customers and influence product roadmaps and strategy
Requirements:
- 8+ years conducting UX or consumer research in a product organization
- Meaningful experience in early-stage innovation or new product development
- Background or deep familiarity with behavioral psychology, behavioral economics, or related fields
- Expertise in qualitative methodologies including in-depth interviews, ethnographic and diary studies, usability testing, participatory design, and workshop facilitation
- Expertise in quantitative methods including survey design and analysis, behavioral data interpretation, experimental design, and mixed-methods synthesis
- Proven ability to lead foundational, generative research
- Exceptional storytelling skills
- Experience working with or alongside data science teams
- Track record of influencing product roadmaps
- Fluency using AI tools for research cycles while maintaining methodological rigor
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
- Advanced degree preferred in Psychology, Behavioral Science, Cognitive Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Anthropology, or a related field
- Currently eligible work locations limited to Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia
