Job Description
Strategic communications leader translating legal and policy developments into compelling content for GLAD Law, an LGBTQ+ rights organization. Building media relationships and public support nationwide.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute strategic communications advancing GLAD Law’s legal and policy goals
- Build public understanding of LGBTQ+ rights among new and conflicted audiences
- Elevate GLAD Law’s visibility as a leading LGBTQ+ legal rights organization
- Draft, edit, and refine event remarks, speeches, press releases, media statements, advocacy emails, newsletter articles, fact sheets, FAQs, blog posts, website copy, and digital media content
- Translate court decisions, legislative activity, and regulatory changes into accessible language
- Maintain a consistent organizational voice while adapting tone and style to audience and context
- Contribute to messaging frameworks, narrative strategy, and communications plans
- Collaborate across departments to support litigation, policy, and development goals
- Cultivate relationships with journalists, editors, creators, and content producers
- Respond to press inquiries, pitch stories, coordinate interviews, and prepare spokespeople
- Monitor media coverage and manage the organization’s public profile
- Oversee work by communications interns
- Work closely with communications, digital media, legal, and organizational leadership teams
Requirements:
- Six or more years of professional experience in communications, journalism, public affairs, message development or a related field, with increasing levels of responsibility and demonstrated expertise in writing across multiple formats
- Exceptional clear, accessible and engaging writing ability, including under deadline
- Strong editing and proofreading skills
- Experience with communications, messaging and narrative strategy that moves people to greater understanding
- Understanding of the evolving media and information landscape
- Sound media judgement and ability to move quickly in a fast-moving media environment
- Demonstrated commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and racial justice
- Experience in legal, advocacy, policy, or nonprofit communications strongly preferred
- Ability to take initiative, think creatively and strategically, partner across teams, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment
