Job Description

Remote Pearson scorer evaluating Massachusetts teacher candidates’ assessment responses. Applying scoring standards and bias-reduction strategies during periodic scoring sessions.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate responses to test questions by Massachusetts teacher candidates
  • Internalize scoring standards and participate in discussions
  • Engage with other scorers in consensus scoring activities
  • Recognize and discuss implicit, cultural, leniency, central tendency, and halo-effect biases
  • Apply strategies to reduce personal biases in scoring
  • Meet quality and productivity requirements established for the scoring program
  • Complete training and possible orientation before scoring
  • Work scoring sessions one or two days every 4–8 weeks, with 3–16 hours available

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher
  • A current teaching certification in the subject area applied for
  • Be practicing or have two (2) or more years’ recent experience in a public school in the subject area applied for, or serve as/have recently served as a college/university/program faculty member who prepares candidates for the subject, or hold a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree and be a graduate student currently teaching courses in the subject area
  • Both active and recently retired practitioners can be eligible to score
  • Basic computer skills (keyboard, mouse)
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to maintain a confidential work environment
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Ability to pass a qualifying test before scoring
