Job Description

Remote Pearson scorer evaluating Illinois and New York teacher-candidate responses. Applying scoring standards and bias-reduction strategies during intermittent assessment sessions.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate responses to test questions by Illinois and New York teacher candidates
  • Internalize scoring standards
  • Participate in discussions and engage with other scorers in consensus scoring activities
  • Recognize and discuss implicit, cultural, leniency, central tendency, and halo-effect biases
  • Apply strategies to reduce personal biases in scoring
  • Meet quality and productivity requirements established for the scoring program
  • Complete training before scoring begins
  • Attend a brief orientation meeting if scheduled
  • Score intermittently during Monday–Friday sessions, two to three times a year, generally from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m., including training

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher
  • A current teaching certification in the language you are applying for
  • Currently teaching or have taught in schools (public or private) within the last three years, including regular substitute teaching; or be/have been an educator from a college or university who holds a degree in a content-relevant field and/or has taught or advised in a content-relevant field within the last three years; or be a native or fluent speaker of the language (read, write, and speak) and hold a college degree
  • Basic computer skills (keyboard, mouse)
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to maintain a confidential work environment
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Pass a qualifying test before scoring
