Job Description
Head of Operations Finance overseeing cost accounting, inventory valuation, budgeting, and operational reporting. Supporting Canopy Growth’s cannabis and hemp business through finance leadership and process improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the Operations Finance & Cost Accounting teams
- Review actual and standard costing activities and inventory valuations
- Provide leadership for the global operations finance function and develop and implement best-in-class processes
- Collaborate with Commercial Finance, Operations, Accounting, IT, and facility GMs
- Lead ERP projects and other systems implementations
- Support expansion and acquisition analysis with the management team
- Oversee the operations departmental costing model for budget variance review, inventory valuations, monthly spend analysis, and close processing
- Oversee standard costing allocations, application rates, and costing records
- Support product costings for new products and pricing decisions
- Support facility GMs with throughput measures, yields, and other key measures
- Lead operations month-end and year-end closing, including inventory adjustments, departmental allocations, and audit support
- Support quarterly physical inventory counts
- Support production facility annual budgets and periodic forecasts
- Identify and recommend cost-effective solutions to senior management
- Evaluate industry trends and the competitive landscape
- Participate in strategic projects and perform other assigned duties
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or equivalent required
- CPA/CMA certification or equivalent strongly preferred
- 10+ years of relevant and progressive experience in cost accounting and management
- Strong understanding of US GAAP for inventory valuation and reporting
- Cannabis industry knowledge preferred, or agriculture/manufacturing-processing experience
- Proficiency in Excel required
- Experience with Sage, Elevated Signals, Ample, Sage 50, or QuickBooks is a plus
- Occasional travel required
- Very strong analytical and research skills and business acumen
- Ability to rapidly come up to speed on new issues and identify critical questions
- Strong communication skills and ability to communicate with and influence all organizational levels
