Job Description
Lead copywriter managing an email and SMS copy team for Homestead Studio, an agency growing eCommerce brands. Coaching writers, balancing capacity, and improving AI-enabled performance marketing execution.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the copy team through coaching, accountability, and clear communication
- Directly manage a team of 8-10 copywriters
- Conduct regular 1:1s, provide feedback, and support professional growth
- Hold writers accountable to quality standards, deadlines, communication expectations, and team processes
- Address performance concerns and partner with the Creative Director on formal performance improvement plans
- Support hiring, onboarding, and development of new copywriters
- Build a culture of ownership, direct feedback, high standards, and continuous learning
- Review copy deliverables to maintain consistency in messaging, brand voice, and strategic execution
- Use client feedback and performance data to identify coaching opportunities and improve results
- Manage workload balancing, team capacity, prioritization, and assignment planning
- Partner with Strategists and Project Managers to keep projects on track
- Identify risks, remove blockers, and solve immediate execution issues
- Provide occasional copywriting coverage during PTO, absences, or high workload periods
- Coach writers on AI workflows, efficiency, quality, and creative thinking
- Identify opportunities to improve team performance through AI and automation
- Reinforce workflows and help establish stronger departmental standards
Requirements:
- 4+ years of copywriting experience within eCommerce or DTC marketing, including meaningful agency experience
- 2+ years of experience leading or managing copywriters or creative professionals
- Experience managing workload balancing, capacity planning, prioritization, and resource allocation
- Experience conducting 1:1s, coaching team members, providing performance feedback, and holding people accountable
- Comfortable having direct, constructive conversations about performance and expectations
- Strong portfolio across email, SMS, landing pages, and performance marketing
- Ability to elevate team work quality through coaching and feedback
- Strong understanding of performance marketing, testing methodologies, and conversion-focused copywriting
- Experience using AI to improve creative workflows, team efficiency, and copy quality
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with multiple teams and stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience preferred
